The NWJHL was inspired in the stands of a final Midget game between Sexsmith and Dawson Creek in the spring of 1994. All the games were close and it seemed a shame that this would be it for the players. A few phone calls later the NWJHL was founded and had their first game in the fall of 1994. The first teams in the league were Dawson Creek, Grande Prairie, Sexsmith and Slave Lake.
The Dawson Creek Junior Canucks Junior B hockey team was founded that year as a way for local minor hockey players to continue to play competivite hockey after they finished their minor hockey careers.
The Dawson Creek Jr Canucks are non-profit and run by the Executive and its Directors. These commited individuals raise funds to keep the club running, the bus fueled and the players fed on road trips. Main fundraisers are the Dawson Creek Fall Fair in August and the Dawson Creek Junior Canucks Player Auction in January. 50/50 ticket are also sold in the stands. The team also holds a Teddy Bear toss in December. You will also spot players skating with Can-Skate kids, assisting with minor hockey and assisting with the Cards for Cancer.
From the general manager, the coaching staff to the trainers... without their commitment, taking time from their families to mentor, teach and inspire the players there wouldn't be a team.
We also have the support of a few fantastic billets. Since many players are 'local' it's especially appreciated when local families open their homes and make import players feel welcome.
We have many sponsors who support our team. Please take the time to look over our Sponsor page and support them as they support us.
See you at the rink!
